2026 Scots Softball Preview

Batesville, AR- The Lyon College Scots Softball enter the 2026 season with a youthful but experienced roster, highlighted by returning position players at key spots and a revamped pitching staff looking to take on a larger role in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Lyon returns several of its most productive bats from the 2025 season, giving the Scots continuity throughout the lineup. Senior outfielder Sophie Varela is back after hitting .350 with 34 runs scored and 15 stolen bases, providing speed and consistency at the top of the order. Senior middle infielder Anna Voth (.315, 26 runs) returns as a steady presence defensively while helping drive the offense, and sophomore Rebecca Rodriguez (.330, 22 RBI) brings power and run production on the left side of the infield.

Junior Skylar Foreman (.312) adds versatility at first base and utility positions, while catcher Fallon Lancaster returns after handling the majority of the team's catching duties in 2025. Together, the returning core gives Lyon experience at nearly every defensive position, supported by a large freshman class expected to add depth across the field.

Lyon's pitching staff features a group of returners and newcomers ready to take on expanded roles in 2026. Junior Madison DeRoussel returns after making 11 appearances in the circle last season, gaining valuable experience against conference competition. Juniors Christina Jeter and Marlee McCalister add depth and flexibility to the staff, while freshman Carlee Duncan joins the rotation as a new option. With multiple arms available, the Scots will focus on developing consistency and managing innings as the season progresses.

"I am really excited for another season at Lyon College, definitely looking forward to warmer weather," said Head Coach Taylor Kuhn. "Our team is full of energy this year."

Conference play once again features familiar SLIAC rivals, the first leg of which will be pre-season ranked #3 Eureka, #8 Webster, #7 Westminster, and #1 Mississippi University for Women. These first conference games are important to gain good standing in the conference and will test the teams ability to execute.

Scots will open their season at the University of Ozarks, in double-header tomorrow February 12th starting at 2:00 PM. It will an important first step for the team and be interesting for Coach Kuhn.

"This will be the second time I have coached against my father at Lyon College since I started in 2019," added Kuhn. "The first time was as the assistant coach when he was at the head coach at University of Central Arkasnsas, this will be the first time as the head coach so this one will be important".

With proven production returning in the lineup, increased roster depth, and a pitching staff ready to step into larger roles, Lyon enters the 2026 season focused on growth and consistency. As conference play approaches, the Scots look forward to an exciting spring filled with competitive rivalries, meaningful games, and continued development as a program.
