ELSAH, Ill. — The Lyon College Scots completed a dominant double-header sweep of the Principia College Panthers on Tuesday, earning decisive victories in both games (15-3, 22-8). Lyon's offensive production surged throughout the day, highlighted by aggressive baserunning, timely hitting, and capitalizing on defensive miscues. The Scots improve to 9-29 on the season and 4-10 in conference play.
The Scots combined for 37 runs on 34 hits across the two games, taking advantage of 11 Principia errors and drawing consistent traffic on the bases. Taylor Gongre and Logann Coil led the offensive effort with multiple RBI performances, while Mia Sanchez, Kori Cox, and Ohnrie Bergman each contributed key multi-hit games to fuel Lyon's scoring output. Carlee Duncan earned the win in game one with a complete game performance, allowing three runs while striking out four. Madison DeRoussel earned the victory in relief in game two, pitching four innings while allowing three earned runs.
In Game 1, Principia struck first in the opening inning, using a single and aggressive baserunning to take a 1-0 lead. The Scots quickly answered in the second inning with a seven-run outburst. Brekiyah Edwards sparked the rally with a single, while McKenzie Wright reached on a fielder's choice that brought home two runs. Bergman and Gongre capitalized on errors and wild pitches to extend the lead to 7-1.
Lyon added another run in the third as Sanchez crossed the plate on a wild pitch. Principia answered with a run of its own, but the Scots continued to build momentum in the fourth inning with six more runs. DeRoussel scored on an error, and Gongre delivered a bases-clearing double to push the advantage to 14-3.
The Scots added one final run in the fifth when Coil scored on a ground out by Sanchez, securing the 15-3 victory.
In Game 2, Lyon wasted no time setting the tone, exploding for eight runs in the opening inning. Gongre opened the scoring with a double, followed by RBI hits from Cox, Coil, and Edwards. Lily Arabie added a two-run single, and Bergman capped the inning with a two-RBI hit to give Lyon an early 8-2 lead.
The Scots continued their offensive surge in the second inning, plating four more runs behind hits from Cox, Rebecca Rodriguez, and Coil, along with a two-RBI double from Sanchez to extend the lead to 12-4.
Lyon added four runs in the third, highlighted by Coil's RBI double and a two-run triple from Hannah Pegg. A sacrifice fly from Wright pushed the score to 16-6.
The momentum continued in the fourth as the Scots plated four more runs, with Gongre delivering another key double to drive in runs and extend the lead to 20-8. Lyon capped the scoring in the fifth with two additional runs, including an RBI from Coil, to seal the 22-8 win.
The Scots will return home for their final home games of the season as they host Greenville for Senior Day on Saturday, May 2, with first pitch scheduled for 2:00 PM.
