St. Louis, MO - The Lyon College Scots delivered a dominant offensive performance in their double-header sweep of the Harris-Stowe State University Hornets on Saturday (20-4, 13-10). Explosive innings at the plate powered Lyon to victory, improving the season to 7-29.
The Scots combined for 33 runs on 23 hits across the two games. Taylor Gongre led the way with six RBI on four hits, while Chloe McCance recorded four RBI on three hits, and Anna Voth tallied 2 RBI on three hits. Lyon pitchers combined for eight strikeouts on the day.
In Game 1, Lyon wasted no time jumping on the Hornets, plating three runs in the opening inning and adding three more in the second. The Scots continued to apply pressure in the third, extending the lead to 9-2 behind timely hitting from Chloe McCance and Taylor Gongre.
Harris-Stowe answered with a pair of early runs, but Lyon maintained control throughout the middle innings. The Scots added another run in the sixth before breaking the game wide open in the seventh. Lyon exploded for 10 runs in the final frame, capitalizing on walks, hit-by-pitches, and defensive miscues to stretch the lead to 20-4. Carl Duncan went the distance in the circle, securing the win for the Scots.
In Game 2, Lyon again struck early, scoring two runs in the first and adding two more in the second to take a 4-2 lead. After a quiet third inning, the Scots broke through with a seven-run fourth inning. Key hits from Gongre, Voth, and McCance highlighted the rally, pushing Lyon ahead 11-3.
Harris-Stowe fought back in the later innings, scoring two runs in the fifth and four more in the sixth to cut into the deficit. The Hornets added one final run in the seventh, but Lyon's early offensive surge proved enough to hold on for a 13-10 victory. Gongre earned the win in the circle, while Duncan recorded the save to close out the sweep.
Lyon will resume conference play, facing the Principia College Panthers this Tuesday, April 28th in a double header beginning at 3:00 PM.
