Scots Sweep Non-Conference Doubleheader Over Pioneers

Lyon College Softball defeated Crowley’s Ridge College, 4-2 and 10-2

PARAGOULD, Ark. – The Lyon College softball team swept Crowley's Ridge College on Monday. The Scots won the first game by a score of 4-2 and the second game by a score of 10-2.

Lyon moves to 7-21 overall, 2-6 in the AMC, while Crowley's Ridge College is now 9-15 on the year.

Game One: Lyon 4, Crowley's Ridge 2
The game remained scoreless until the top of the seventh inning. Riley Shaw led off the seventh inning with a pinch-hit double to right field. Anna Beth Conditt, then, laced a double to left field, giving the Scots a 1-0 lead. A pair of singles by Kortanie Ruhland and Kassidy Robinson doubled Lyon's advantage. With one out in the frame, Cheyenne Herrera hit a sac fly, plating Ruhland and extending Lyon's lead to three. Jasmine Carlos capped off the inning with an RBI single, giving the Scots a 4-0 lead as the Pioneers came to bat in the bottom of the seventh.

Crowley's Ridge College's Kaitlyn Stebelton delivered a two-out 2-RBI double to right field, cutting Lyon's lead in half. The Pioneers would bring the tying run up to the dish, but Olivia Floyd was up to the challenge and got the CRC batter to fly out to left field to end the game as the Scots took game one, 4-2.

Offensively, Kassidy Robinson paced the Scots as she went 3-for-4 with an RBI and run scored in the contest. Olivia Floyd kept the CRC batters off balance all afternoon as she earned the complete-game victory, while striking out three.

Game Two: Lyon 10, Crowley's Ridge 2 (6 Inn.)
The Scots scratched a run across in the first inning. Kortanie Ruhland led off the game with a single and would come around to score on an RBI groundout by Riley Shaw.

In the top of the second inning, Nadya Fernandez hit a one-out double down the left field line. After a Melanie Mooney walk, Kortanie Ruhland hit an RBI single. Mooney would come around to score on an error by Crowley's Ridge College. Kassidy Robinson followed with an infield single, scoring Ruhland. Robinson came around to score on another CRC error, giving Lyon a 5-0 lead.

The Scots scored a pair of runs in the top of the fourth inning as Cheyenne Herrera ripped an RBI double and Riley Shaw hit an RBI single, extending Lyon's lead to seven.

The Pioneers scratched two runs across in the bottom of the fifth inning making the score 7-2 in favor of the Scots.

Lyon would answer right back in the top of the sixth inning. A Kortanie Ruhland walk, Cheyenne Herrera single, and Riley Shaw walk loaded the bases for the Scots. Celsey Wood, then, delivered a 2-RBI single up the middle, scoring Ruhland and Herrera. With two outs in the frame, McKenzie Campbell hit an RBI single, putting Lyon up 10-2.

McKenzie Campbell retired the Pioneers in order in the bottom of the sixth inning, giving Lyon a 10-2 run-rule victory.

Offensively, Kortanie Ruhland paced the Scots as she was 4-for-4 in the contest with four runs scored and one RBI. McKenzie Campbell was dominant in the circle as she earned the complete-game victory, while allowing just one hit and striking out three.
 
UP NEXT FOR THE SCOTS
The Scots return to Batesville to host Harris-Stowe State University on Saturday and University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis on Sunday. First pitch for each conference doubleheader is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
