BATESVILLE, Ark. – The (RV) Lyon College Softball team travels to Oklahoma to compete in the Red Dirt Classic. The Scots will face No. 2 University of Science and Arts and No. 4 Oklahoma City University on Friday. Lyon will take on Baker University (Kan.) and No. 4 Oklahoma City University on Saturday.
The Matchup
No. 2 University of Science and Arts: The University of Science and Arts are 6-0 on the season. The Drovers return two of their top hitters in Tarah Madron and Randa Hatter. Madron paced the Drovers last season with a .541 batting average and tallied a team-best 33 hits, including eight doubles, while Hatter hit .370 with a team-high 27 RBI's. USAO will lean on Emily Cerny in the circle. Cerny was 14-2 last year with a 2.32 earned run average and a team-best 107 strikeouts.
No. 4 Oklahoma City University: The Oklahoma City University Stars opened their season on Tuesday with a doubleheader sweep of Texas Wesleyan University. The Stars return two of their top hitters in Sarah Fisher and Kennedy Jackson. Fisher paced the Stars with a .533 batting average and tallied a team-best 34 RBI's on the season, while Jackson hit .395 with a team-high 31 runs scored. OCU will lean on Jaden Shores in the circle. Shores was 9-1 last year with a 1.29 earned run average and a team-best 66 strikeouts.
(RV) Baker University (Kan.): The Baker University Wildcats are currently 0-2 on the year. The Wildcats are led offensively by Payton Reynolds and Parker Straight. Reynolds paces Baker with a .750 batting average and a team-high two runs scored, while Straight is hitting .333 and has tallied a team-best three RBI's through two games. The Wildcats are led in the circle by Makayla Akin. Akin is currently 0-1 with a 4.00 earned run average and a pair of strikeouts.
(RV) Lyon College: The (RV) Lyon College Scots are currently 3-7 on the year with a win over Xavier University of Louisiana and a pair of wins over Texas A&M-Texarkana. The Scots are led offensively by
Olivia Floyd,
Kassidy Robinson, and
Cheyenne Herrera. Floyd paces Lyon with a .375 batting average. Robinson is currently hitting .367 with a team-best 11 hits and has tallied five RBI's so far this season, while Herrera posts a .345 batting average with a team-high eight runs scored. The Scots are led in the circle by
Katelyn Platt. Platt is currently 2-2, including a complete game victory, and has converted a save on the year.
Series History: This will be the first time Lyon has faced USAO, Oklahoma City University, or Baker University (Kan.).
