BATESVILLE, Ark. – The (RV) Lyon College Softball team will open the season at the Texarkana Tournament on February 5th and 6th. On Friday, the Scots will face Texas A&M University-Texarkana and Xavier University of Louisiana. On Saturday, Lyon will battle Xavier University of Louisiana and Texas A&M-Texarkana for the second time in as many days.
The Matchup
Texas A&M University - Texarkana: The Texas A&M University – Texarkana Eagles are coming off a 2020 season in which they finished 7-6 overall. The Eagles are a member of the Red River Athletic Conference. Texas A&M University - Texarkana returns two of their top hitters in Katelyn Slamer and Erika Richardson. Slamer posted a team-best .333 batting average, while recording a team-high 13 runs scored last season. Richardson totaled a batting average of .316, while tallying six RBI's. Texas A&M University – Texarkana will lean on Dorrie Cormier in the circle. Cormier was 4-3 last year with a team-high 46 strikeouts and a team-best 1.52 earned run average.
Xavier University of Louisiana: This will be the first season for the Xavier University of Louisiana Gold Nuggets. The Gold Nuggets will join the Red River Athletic Conference as a full-time member, effective July 1, 2021.
(RV) Lyon College: The (RV) Lyon College Scots are coming off a 2020 season in which they finished 14-7 overall. The Scots return a solid nucleus from last year's team, including three of their top hitters in
Addison Harmon,
Riley Shaw, and
Kassidy Robinson. Harmon posted a .353 batting average to go along with 14 RBI's and 11 stolen bases. Shaw tallied a .340 batting average and a team-best six doubles, while Robinson hit .339 and drove in a team-high 21 RBI's. The Scots will lean on
Katelyn Platt and
Shyanne Pedroza in the circle. Platt was 5-2 last year with a 2.33 earned run average, while Pedroza was 9-3 on the season with a 1.82 earned run average and a team-best 34 strikeouts.
Series History: This will be the first meeting between the Scots and the Gold Nuggets, while Lyon is 4-2 all-time against Texas A&M University – Texarkana.
