BATESVILLE, Ark. – The (RV) Lyon College Softball team travels to Mississippi to take on Blue Mountain College in a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
The Matchup
Blue Mountain College: This will be the first games of the season for the Blue Mountain College Toppers. The Toppers are coming off a 2020 season in which they finished 10-6 overall. Blue Mountain College returns two of their top hitters in Meghan Maness and Emaree Stone. Maness paced the Toppers with a .446 batting average and tallied 15 RBI's on the season, while Stone hit .371 with eight runs scored. Blue Mountain College will lean on Montanna Smith in the circle. Smith was 5-3 last year with a 4.49 earned run average and a team-best 49 strikeouts.
(RV) Lyon College: The (RV) Lyon College Scots are currently 3-5 on the year with a win over Xavier University of Louisiana and a pair of wins over Texas A&M-Texarkana. The Scots are led offensively by
Olivia Floyd,
Kassidy Robinson, and
Cheyenne Herrera. Floyd paces Lyon with a .417 batting average. Robinson is currently hitting .391 with a team-best nine hits and has tallied three RBI's so far this season, while Herrera posts a .375 batting average with a team-high seven runs scored. The Scots are led in the circle by
Katelyn Platt. Platt is currently 2-2, including a complete game victory, and has converted a save on the year.
Series History: Lyon is 9-9 all-time against Blue Mountain College, with their most recent meeting being in 2020 as the Toppers defeated the Scots by a score of 11-3.

The Scots travel to Oklahoma to compete in the Red Dirt Classic on Friday, Mar. 5 and Saturday Mar. 6. Lyon will take on No. 4 Oklahoma City University and No. 2 University of Science and Arts on Friday. The Scots will face Ottawa University and McPherson College on Saturday.
