Scots Excel in Texarkana Tournament

Lyon College Softball earned run-rule victories over Sterling College and No. 21 LSU-Alexandria, while splitting with Texas A&M-Texarkana

TEXARKANA, Texas – The Lyon College softball team earned run-rule victories over Sterling College and No. 21 LSU-Alexandria, while splitting with Texas A&M-Texarkana this weekend.  

Lyon and Texas A&M-Texarkana move to 3-1 on the season. LSU-Alexandria goes to 1-1 and Sterling College falls to 0-4.

Day One: Lyon vs. Sterling (Kan.) and Texas A&M University-Texarkana
The Scots cruised to a 9-0 victory over Sterling on Friday. Lyon was led in the circle by Shyanne Pedroza. Pedroza kept the Sterling hitters off balance all game, en route to a 9-0 (6 inn.) win in the season opener.

In the second game of the day, Lyon would face off with Texas A&M University – Texarkana. The Scots got on the board first in this one as Addison Harmon hit a one-out double in the top of the first inning. After Harmon stole third, Kassidy Robinson delivered an RBI-single. The Scots pushed two more runs across in the opening frame as Robinson came around to score on a popout and Riley Shaw scampered home on an RBI-single by Mikayla Mullen

The Eagles, however, responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame as Alicia Mora laced a 2-RBI double to right field, cutting Lyon's lead to just one.

Texas A&M–Texarkana would tie the game in the second inning on an Erica Richardson sac fly to center field.

The score would remain tied until the bottom of the fourth inning. Texas A&M–Texarkana would string together three hits and four runs in the frame, giving the Eagles a 7-3 lead. 

The Scots would rally in the top of the fifth inning with a pair of runs to cut the deficit in half. Harmon earned a walk to lead off the inning. Harmon, then, stole second and third and came around to score on a misplayed grounder. With one out in the inning, Cheyenne Herrera hit an RBI-groundout, scoring Robinson and trimming the deficit to just two.

In the top of the sixth inning, Siobhan Taylor and Megan Micke drew a pair of one-out walks. Addison Harmon, then, crushed a three-run home run over the left field fence, giving Lyon an 8-7 lead.

The Scots would score a pair of runs in the top half of the seventh. Megan Micke hit a sac fly to center field, scoring Sarah Jo Guerrero. Harmon, then, delivered another clutch hit, lacing a triple to center field, scoring Siobhan Taylor and giving Lyon a 10-7 advantage.

The Eagles, though, rallied in the bottom of the seventh as Texas A&M–Texarkana scored four runs, capped off by a Lauren Bierschenk walk-off RBI-single. This gave the Eagles an 11-10 victory over the Scots Friday evening.
 
Addison Harmon led the way for the Scots as she was 3-for-3 at the plate with a double, triple, home-run, two walks, three stolen bases, and four runs batted in.  
 
Day 2: Lyon vs. Texas A&M University-Texarkana and No. 21 LSU-Alexandria
Lyon faced Texas A&M-Texarkana in their first game of the day. The Eagles scratched a run across in the top of the first on an RBI-double by Morgan Bullock. This gave Texas A&M-Texarkana a 1-0 advantage. 

The Scots responded right back with a run in the bottom half of the frame. Megan MIcke led off the inning with a walk and steal of second base. Kassidy Robinson, then, laced an RBI-single to center, scoring Micke and knotting the game at one.

The score would remain tied until the bottom of the fifth inning. Siobhan Taylor roped a one-out double down the right field line and advanced to third on a bobble by the right fielder. Megan Micke, then, executed the squeeze play perfectly as Taylor crossed the plate, giving Lyon a 2-1 lead.  

The Eagles got the leadoff on base in the top of the seventh inning, but Shyanne Pedroza was terrific in the circle all afternoon as she induced three straight flyouts and clinched the 2-1 victory over Texas A&M-Texarkana on Saturday. Pedroza earned the complete game victory, while striking out three. 
 
Megan Micke led the way for the Scots as she was 1-for-2 at the plate with a double, walk, stolen base, run scored, and run batted in.  

The Scots concluded the Texarkana Tournament by taking on No. 21 LSU-Alexandria. Lyon got the bats going early as they scored two in the first and one in the second to take a three-run advantage into the top of the third.

The score remained 3-0 in favor of Lyon until the bottom of the fourth. The Scots broke the game open with a four-run fourth inning, giving Lyon a 7-0 lead.

Lyon would tack on one more run in the bottom of the fifth to earn a run-rule victory over No. 21 LSU-Alexandria. Addison Harmon and Riley Shaw led the way for the Scots offensively as Harmon went 2-for-4 with two doubles and a pair of RBI's, while Shaw was 1-for-2 at the dish with a double, two RBI's, and two runs scored. Katelyn Platt earned the complete game shutout, while striking out four.

The Scots travel to Conway to take on Division I Central Arkansas University on Tuesday, Feb. 11 at 6 p.m.
