BATESVILLE, Ark. – The Lyon College softball team earned a victory over William Penn University, 2-0, and fell to Judson University, 5-4 in the opening day of the Scots Tri-Match today.

Lyon moves to 10-3 on the season. Judson University goes to 8-6, while William Penn University falls to 0-7.

Game One: Judson 5, Lyon 4
The Scots opened the scoring in the bottom of the second inning on a solo home run by Cheyenne Herrera. This gave Lyon a 1-0 advantage after two innings of play.

After a run by the Scots in the third inning doubled their advantage, Judson University rattled off four runs in the top of the fourth capped off on a two-run home run from Lauren Herlihy.

The Scots would knot the game up at four in the bottom of the fifth inning, but an RBI single in the top of the sixth inning from Herlihy proved to be the difference as Judson defeated the Lyon by a score of 5-4 in the opening game of the Scots Tri-Match.

Shyanne Pedroza pitched all seven innings for the Scots, while striking out four. Cheyenne Herrera led Lyon offensively as she was 2-for-3 in the contest with two RBI's, a walk, and a run scored.

Game Two: Lyon 2, William Penn 0
The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the fourth inning. Cheyenne Herrera led off the frame with a single to left field. A sac bunt by Jasmine Carlos and ground out advanced Herrera to third with two outs. Anna Beth Conditt, then, hit a sharp grounder to the shortstop. The William Penn shortstop made an errant throw, giving the Scots a 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Jasmine Carlos crushed a one-out double into left field. A Mikayla Mullen single put runners on the corner with one out in the frame. Madison Sansom, then, slapped a pinch-hit RBI single to right field, plating Carlos and doubling Lyon's advantage.

In the seventh inning, Katelyn Platt worked around a leadoff double to give the Scots a 2-0 victory over William Penn University. Platt was sensational in the contest as she recorded a one-hit complete game shutout, while striking out four. Offensively, Lyon was led by Mikayla Mullen and Megan Micke as each collected a pair of hits in the contest.
