COLUMBIA, Mo. – On the third day of the American Midwest Conference (AMC) Tournament, the Lyon College softball team fell to No. 1 Columbia College, 7-3.
Columbia College improves to 33-10 on the year, 21-3 in the AMC. Lyon moves to 33-14 on the season, 17-7 in the AMC.
Columbia 7, Lyon 3
The Cougars got on the scoreboard first as Olivia Denslow led off the game with a double to center field. Denslow would later come around to score on a wild pitch, giving the Cougars a 1-0 lead.
Columbia would tack on three more runs in the second inning on a 3-run home run by Avgustina Arbova, extending the Cougars' lead to four.
Lyon got on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Cheyenne Black led off the frame with a double to left field.
Addison Harmon, then laid down a sac bunt to move the pinch runner,
Skyler Burke, over to third.
Riley Shaw executed a perfect bunt, plating Burke and cutting the deficit to three.
Columbia led off the top of the fifth inning with a pair of singles by Karolina Arbova and Olivia Denslow. Molly Carter, then, hit a 3-run home run over the center field fence, giving Columbia a 7-1 advantage.
The Scots utilized three straight singles in the bottom of the seventh by
Camryn Long,
Libby Shipp, and
Megan Micke to scratch a run across.
Cheyenne Black, then, hit an RBI double, scoring Shipp and cutting the deficit to four. Unfortunately, the Scots were unable to get anything else going and fell to Columbia by a score of 7-3.
Katelyn Platt threw all seven innings, while striking out one.
Cheyenne Black paced Lyon offensively with two hits and one RBI in the contest.
