Lyon men's golf college finishes 1st in fall debut

Union Grove, AL - The Lyon College Scots men's golf team finished first in their debut at the Roger Lundy Alabama Invasion, beating out their nearest opponent Spalding University by 31 strokes. Scots faced five different programs in the tournament including two SLIAC members in Spalding and Mississippi University for Women. The tournament was cut short due to poor weather so round three was not played. 

Lyon shot a 299 in round one and 288 in round two for a tournament total of 587 for 1st place. Spalding shot 310 in round one and 308 in round two for a tournament total of 618 for 2nd place. Just two strokes behind MUW taking third shot a 310 in round one and two for a total of 620.  Millsaps College finished with 628 overall with 317 in round one and 311 in round two to take 4th place. Asbury College & Franklin College finished tied for 5th, with both shooting 326 in round one and 313 in round two. 

Four Scots were among the top-five finishes for the tournament, they are John Blaker Turner, John Waltzer, Michael Winne, and Hunter Beasley.

Turner led his team and all scorers shooting one under par for the tournament 143, with 74 in round one and 69 in round two. In round one Turner pared 11 holes (1-3,6-11,13,15,17,18). He shot one under twice birding holes 4 & 12.  He bogied holes 5 & 16, he double bogied hole 14. In round two he shot par on most holes (1-5,7,13-16) as well as tallying six birdies (6,8,10,12,17,18). Turner was only over par on one hole in round two with a double bogey on the 11th hole. 

Waltzer finished 2nd only three strokes ahead 146, with 73 in round one and two. In round one Waltzer pared 12 holes (1-3, 7,10-15, 17-18). He shot one under thrice birding holes 6,8,16. He bogied 4 & 9, shooting a double bogey on hole 5. In round two he pared 12 holes (3-4, 6-7, 9, 10-15, 17). He shot one under thrice birding holes 1,2,18. He bogied holes 8 & 16. 

Winne finished 3rd only two strokes ahead 148, with 75 in round one and 73 in round two. In round one Winne pared 11 holes (3-7,10-11,13-14,16,18). He shot one under twice birding holes 15 & 17. He bogied five holes (1-2,8-9,12). In the second round he pared 13 holes (2-4,6-9,10-13,16-17). He one under twice birding holes 14 & 18. He bogied three holes (1,5,15). 

Beasley shooting 150 finished 4th, with 73 in round one and 73 in round two. In the first round Beasley pared seven holes (3,5-6,12,14,16,18). He shot one under par three times on holes 11,13, & 17. He bogied eight holes (1-2,4,7-9,10,15). In the second round he pared his first nine holes, then all but 12,15, & 17 on his last nine. On hole 17 he shot one under par, then on 12 & 15 he bogied. 

Ryan Kriz finished tied at 19th shooting 158, with 84 in round one and 74 in round two. Of 36 holes played he pared 22 of them. He shot one under on holes 9 & 15 in round two. 

Scots men's golf will travel to Kennett, Missouri to compete in the Williams Baptist Fall Invitational starting Sunday, Sep.14 through Tuesday, Sep.16.
