Frankston, TX - Your Fighting Scots men's golf team tied for second place at the Goliath Compression Invitational, with
Michael Winne and
Ryan Kriz leading the way with two top-ten finishes.
Lyon College finished the tournament shooting 895 (290-305-300), tied at 2nd with Lyon is Jacksonville College finishing with 895 (296-292-300). The host Letourneau University would win the tournament shooting 860 (284-288-288). Schreiner University would finish in fourth place with 901 (303-305-293), while Nebraska Wesleyan University finished fifth with 908 (300-301-307). East Texas Baptist University placed 6th with 911, Concordia University (TX) placed 7th at 921, Millsaps College placed 8th with 973, and Jarvis Christian Univeristy finished 9th with 1021.
Winne finished four over par at 7th, 220 (70-75-75) with 11 birdies and 28 pars. In round one, his best of the tournament he scratched six birdies (2,5,7,9,11,13), pared eight times (3,6,10,12, 14-17), and only bogied four times (1,4,8,18). Round two, he recorded two birdies (1,18), 11 pars (2-6,9,11-12,14-16), and bogied five times (7-8,10,13,17). Round three, he notched three birdies (3,10,18), nine pars (1,4-7,9,14-16), and six bogies (2,8,11-13,17).
Kriz finished six-over at 10th, 222 (72-78-72) with 10 birdies and 33 pars. In round one, he recorded three birdies (5,13-14), pared 12 times (2-4,6,8-9,10-12,16-18), bogied three times (1,7,15). In round two, he notched two birdies (5,10), 12 pars (1,3,6-9,12-14,16-18), bogied once (11), double bogied twice (2,15), and triple bogied once (4). In round three, he scratched five birdies (2,5-6,16,18), pared 9 times (8-9,10-15,17), bogied three times (1,3,7), and double bogied once (4).
John
Blake Turner finished seven-over tied at 11th, 223 (73-76-74) with 8 birdies and 31 pars. In round one, his tournament best he sunk two birdies (5,14), recorded 13 pars (1-4,7-9,10-12,15,18), and three bogeys (6,13,16). In round two, he notched three birdies (3,5,18), nine pars (1,4,7,9,10,12-13,16-17), five bogies (2,6,8,11,15), and one double bogey (14). In round three, he scratched three birdies (5,9,15), 10 pars (2,4,6,8,10,12-14,16-17), five bogies (1,3,7,11,18).
William Manry finished tied for 25th place with 231 (75-77-79),
Hunter Beasley finished tied for 38th with 236 (76-78-83), and
John Waltzer placed 43rd with 241 (82-82-77).
Scots will continue their spring season at the Cochran Collegiate on April 13th & 14th in Cordova, Tennessee at the Colonial Country Club.
