Batesville, AR - Day one of the Mark Martin Automotive/Lyon College Invitational has come to an end. Three teams have advanced to the winners bracket, while three fell to loser's. It was an exciting day of basketball and one of many to come.
We tipped off the tournament with the Southside Lady Southerners facing the Thayer Lady Cats, Southerners led the Bobcats 44-35 going into halftime, Southside would get the win with a final score of 79-53. #22 Maci Witt was the stand out for the Lady Southerners recording 24 points, making ten field goals, sinking one three-pointer, and going 1 for 1 from the charity stripe. #15 Kadyn Hilles was top scorer for the Lady Cats tallying 17 total points, making three from the field, notching two three-pointers, and shooting a perfect 5 for 5 from the free throw line.
Second game today was the first boys game of the tournament as the Southside Southerners faced off against the Greers Ferry Westside Eagles. Southerners controlled the first half taking the lead into halftime 31-12, Southside would take the game 57-28. #3 Clifton Pate was lead scorer for Southside with 16 points, three from the field, three three-pointers, and one free throw made. #22 Kaleb McKinney put up nine points for the Eagles, making three from the field, and sinking a three-pointer.
Our third and final match of the day was between the Nettleton Lady Raiders and the Cedar Ridge Lady Timberwolves. The Lady Raiders led the Lady Timberwolves 37-17 going at halftime, Nettleton would get the win 60-31. #1 Kadeyn Hardaway scored 19 points tonight for the Lady Raiders, making 2 field goals and 5 three-pointers. #5 Emilee Pankey was the top scorer recording 12 points, making four field goals, one three-pointer, and on free throw.
With wins by the Lady Raiders and Lady Southerners they advance, with Southside girls facing Greers Ferry Westside in Game 5 and Nettleton girls facing Mountain View in Game 6. Thayer and Cedar Ridges loses today mean they will play in the loser's bracket Hame 4. Southside boys victory will let them advance to face Thayer in Game 7.
