Knoxville, TN - Savannah Lopez, Allison Byars, and Samantha Taylor have had their jersey's put on display in the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame Ring of Honor in recognition of their outstanding achievements during the 2023-24 season. That year the Scots finished with a winning record of 16-11 and were the runner's up in the USCAA Division I National Championship.
The Ring of Honor currently has over 100 jerseys from high school to college hanging from the rafters, serving to honor these women's achievements in the sport and provide a backdrop to the hall's archives. The Ring of Honor has displayed jerseys from some of the best players in the world including Candace Parker, Sue Bird, Kelsey Plum, Breanna Stewart, and Aja Wilson. Lopez, Byars, and Taylor's joining of the ranks of those greats accomplishes the mission of the Hall of Fame to "honor the past, celebrate the present, and promote the future" of women's basketball.
Taylor a native of Shreveport, Louisiana was named a USCAA 1st Team All-American, SLIAC Defensive Player of the Year, SLIAC Newcomer of the Year, and named to the SLIAC All-Defensive Team. She was also recognized as a USCAA Player of the week (1/3/2024) and a SLIAC Player of the Week (12/18/2023). In the 2023 season she lead the league with 130 steals, was 2nd in the SLIAC with 114 assists, 10th in free throw percentage shooting .732, and finished 11th in conference scoring with 367 points. She made 120 field goals (4th on team), 112 free throws (1st in team), and 92 total rebounds Of those rebounds 27 were offensive and 65 defensive.
Lopez from Angleton, Texas was named a USCAA 1st Team All-American and named SLIAC 1st Team All-Conference. She was recognized as USCAA DI Player of the Week twice (12/6/2023 & 1/24/2024) and as a SLIAC Player of the Week (1/2/2024). In the 2023 season she lead the league in field goal percentage shooting .599, she also led in blocks with 53, she was second in conference with 185 field goals made, and was sixth in total points scored with 399. Lopez finished fifth in the conference with 180 total rebounds of which 88 were offensive and 112 defensive. She led the Scots in field goals made, blocks, and rebounds. Among her teammates she was also second in scoring.
Byars a native of Fayetteville, Arkansas was named a USCAA 1st Team All-American and named SLIAC 2nd Team All-Conference. She was named SLIAC Player of the Week twice (11/13/2023 & 11/27/2023). In the 2023 season she lead the league in assists with 172 and assist/turnover ratio with 1.7. She was 4th in the SLIAC with 71 steals, 6th in the league with 138 field goals, 7th in conference in total scoring with 396 points, and 9th overall in free throw percentage with .441. Among the team she led in assists, was 2nd in rebounds with 144 total of those 106 defensive and 32 offensive. Byars was second in free throw makes 102 and percentage .723. She also recorded 3rd most field goals made for the Scots.
