Batesville, Ark. – Lyon College head women's basketball coach Michael Peckham has announced that Simeon Gibson will join his staff as the new assistant coach.
"I am very excited to announce that Simeon Gibson will be joining the program," said Peckham. "I believe Simeon's breadth of experience at different levels of competition such as Superior, Asheville, and Morehead State will be a big plus for our student-athletes. His mind for player development and recruiting including using social media to communicate with potential players will be instrumental to the program going forward".
At 26 years old, Gibson brings a wealth of experience from NCAA Division I and Division III levels. He comes to Lyon from the University of Wisconsin–Superior, where he served as the assistant women's basketball coach. During his time there, he assisted Superior to an NCAA Division III National Tournament appearance, coached a UMAC Player of the Year, and coached a UMAC Defensive Player of the Year.
Prior to that, Gibson was the Director of Player Development at UNC Asheville, where he managed program operations, coordinated recruiting efforts at both the high school and college levels, and distributed video content to players for their continued development. He also served as the Director of Basketball Operations at Morehead State, where he acted as a liaison between the team and athletic administration, organized team activities, and maintained accurate records in compliance with university, conference, and NCAA rules.
"I am extremely excited to join Coach Peckham's staff for the upcoming season," said Gibson. "I'm eager to bring my knowledge and energy to the program, while learning from a longtime veteran of the game like Coach Peckham who is experienced at all levels. I look forward to the season ahead and to the continued success of Lyon College women's basketball."
Gibson graduated with a Bachelor's in Major Exercise Sport Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Master's in Sport Administration from the University of Louisville.
