WALNUT RIDGE, ARK. - The Lyon College men's soccer Scots were on the verge of tying the match against Williams Baptist late in the second period, but a last second save by the Eagles' goalie stopped them in a 1-0 loss at Walnut Ridge on Tuesday afternoon in American Midwest Conference action.
The only goal of the game was scored by Williams Baptist in the first 11:07 of the contest. The Scots (3-10-3, 2-3-1) had five shots at the goal, with two being on-goal attempts.
Individually,
Leonardo Galdino had two shots, one of which was on-goal for Lyon College,
Felipe Teruel had a shot miss and
Aidan McGeown had two shots and one of those was on-goal. Scots goalie
Dan Huff made two saves in the match.
After the only goal of the game, the Scots were whistled for five straight fouls, then after substituting, Lyon College had its momentum stopped with three more fouls. Finally, a corner kick from Galdino went wide at the 28:16 mark and that was the only offense by the Scots throughout the first stanza.
Teruel took a shot for Lyon College early in the second period that was high of the mark, then a header by McGeown minutes later just missed high over the goal. Galdino got free at the 76:03 mark and booted a shot that went high and as time was winding down, McGeown's shot was saved barely by the Williams Baptist goalie. The play resulted in a corner kick for Galdino, which was deflected out of bounds and his second try at a corner kick missed. Galdino had a penalty kick at the 85:37 mark that was saved and was the last attack by the Scots.
