Greenville, IL – The Scots continued their impressive run in the SLIAC Tournament with a dominant 3-0 victory over Webster University. With the win, Lyon improves to 9-6-3 and advances to the SLIAC Championship match.
Despite being out shot by Webster, the Scots made their chances count, firing seven shots with three on target all finding the back of the net.
Matheus Nunes led the charge with two shots, including one on goal and one score.
Micah Rangel added the second goal with his lone shot on target, while
Lucca Torres,
Tiago Donadon,
Roman Magnanelli, and
Traviss Ragan each contributed shots of their own. In net,
Gabriel Rangel stood tall, facing four shots on goal and stopping all of them to secure the clean sheet.
The Scots looked to make a statement early, as
Traviss Ragan got things rolling with a low shot on goal that was saved by the Gorloks' goalkeeper (5:32). Webster responded quickly with a shot of their own, but Rangel came up with the stop (7:51). Both teams traded possessions across the pitch, with several off-target attempts on each side. Late in the first half, Webster was awarded a penalty kick but failed to convert, sending both teams into halftime locked in a 0-0 tie.
Early in the second half, the Scots caught a fortunate break, capitalizing on an own goal to take a 1-0 lead (45:52). Just minutes later, Nunes broke through a cluster of defenders and fired a shot into the back of the net, extending the advantage to 2-0 (52:43). Webster pushed to respond with several shots on target, but Rangel stood tall in goal, keeping the Gorloks off the board. Despite continued pressure from Webster, the Scots turned defense into offense as
Micah Rangel sealed the game with a goal in the 70th minute (70:42), securing the 3-0 victory.
The Scots now head to the championship round with a chance to bring home a trophy in their first year of postseason competition. Lyon will face Greenville University on Saturday, November 8th, at 1:00 PM.
