BATESVILLE, Ark. – The Lyon College women's soccer team kicks off the season on Saturday. The Scots will host Bellevue University at 6:30 p.m.
The Matchup
Bellevue University: The Bellevue University Bruins are 6-2 on the season. The Bruins defeated Waldorf University by a score of 1-0 in their most recent match. The Bruins are led up front by Marilia Lages and Bruna Cola Bielski. Lages and Bielski have each tallied four goals so far and accounted for eight of the team's 12 goals scored on the season. Bellevue will lean on their goalkeeper, Sabrina Staufenbiel, who has recorded a team-best 26 saves in the 2020-21 campaign.
Lyon College: The Lyon College Scots return to the pitch Saturday for the 2020-21 campaign after finishing 7-10 a season ago. Lyon will be led by a trio of upperclassmen in senior
Alexandria Denton and juniors
Sarah Evans and
Hailey Gonzales. Denton started all 17 matches in the 2019 campaign, while scoring three goals, including two game-winners, and tallied a team-best six assists. Evans started all 17 matches last season for the Scots, while tallying five goals, including one game-winner, and recorded four assists. Gonzales scored five goals on the year and registered a team-high six assists a season ago. The Scots will rely on freshman goalkeeper –
Jena Vavasseur.
