A former member of two Lyon College women’s basketball national tournament teams, Christine Smith has joined the Scots’ staff as an assistant coach for the 2014-15 season.
Smith, a native of Bentonville, Ark. and a graduate of Shiloh Christian High School, played four years for Lyon, graduating in 2013 with a B.A. in Psychology and Education. She is currently working to acquire her Master’s Degree in Sports Administration.
A four-year letterwinner for the Scots, Smith helped Lyon to its first two National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Division I National Tournament bids in 2011-12 and 2012-13. During those two years Lyon posted an overall record of 48-17 (.738), including a conference mark of 26-9 (.743) in the TranSouth Athletic Conference and the American Midwest Conference.
Lyon set a program record in 2012-13 with 28 wins (28-5), as the Scots captured the AMC Co-Championship with a 17-1 record. Lyon was 83-44 (.654) in the four years Smith was on the squad.
Smith was a member of the United States team at the 2014 Summer Deaflympics in Bulgaria, where she helped the team capture a Gold Medal.
She was an 82.3% career free-throw shooter in college, a three-time conference scholar athlete and an NAIA Champions of Character Award winner.
