Kyle Phelps was hired as recruiting coordinator and defensive line coach at Lyon College when the institution re-instated the football program in 2013. He was promoted to associate head coach in 2015, while keeping his other duties.
Phelps is from Bartlesville, Oklahoma, but attended Lyon College and played on the Scots' baseball team under head coach Kirk Kelley after transferring from Baldwin-Wallace College in the Cleveland, Ohio, area.
In addition to serving as an assistant or head coach in various teams in Texas and Oklahoma, he was an assistant coach at Oklahoma Wesleyan University with Kelley, while serving as travel coordinator, as well. Phelps coached at the University of Central Arkansas and comes back to Lyon after his second coaching stint at OWU.
Phelps also coordinates travel for the Lyon football squad. This year the Scots will travel to Rapid City, South Dakota and Phoenix, Arizona, in addition to Conway, Arkansas and Waxahachie and Tyler, Texas for road games.
Phelps' recruiting territories for the Scots football team includes California, Oregon, Washington and southeast Texas.
Kyle and his wife, Allison, reside in Batesville.
