Batesville, AR - Lyon Athletics paid tribute to its Seniors at the 2026 Senior Appreciation Banquet. Athletes from all 16 varsity sports were in attendance as they were recognized for their achievements as a Scot.
The night began as athletes, family, staff, and faculty entered and found their place. Friends got together, coaches visited with players, the air was filled with reminiscence as this time in everyone's life is soon to come to an end. These seniors are about to begin the next chapter in their lives, whether it is postgraduate studies or beginning their career. This time is mix of emotions with happiness, pride, uncertainty, and some sadness coloring it.
Director of Athletics
Kevin Jenkins took to the podium speaking on how all these seniors lives were very soon to change, but the effort and energy that they had as an athlete at Lyon College would be key to their success in the future. Pointing out that they must take control of the opportunities that arise, not be cowed by fear of failure, live with integrity, and be aware and nuture relationships that will help you succeed.
After a few minutes of enjoying desserts and punch was time for the big events of night,announcing the award winners and passing out stoles. The Winnie Marable Award is awarded to the female athlete and the Dick Winningham Award is presented to the male athlete who have displayed dedication, sportsmanship and a great attitude at Lyon College.
Natalya Kaza of the women's basketball team was winner of the Winnie Marable.
Kaza has been a standout on the team this year and excellent over her time as a Scot. She was a four-year letter winner, awarded SLIAC player of the year in 2026, named to D3Hoops.com All-Region 8 Team, recognized on AMC's All-Freshman Team, named USCAA Division I Student Athlete of the Year, on USCAA National Championship All-Tournament Team, and has been recognized multiple times as an All-Conference player. Academically she has been recognized at the conference, national level, and was a member of the Presidents List and Athletic Director's Honor Roll every semester. She holds multiple records for the Scots women's basketball including most points in a game (39), most field goals in a game (16), and most three pointers in a game (10). Natalya was also involved in numerous on campus organizations.
Wes Lange of men's golf and Eli Lupton of men's wrestling tied for the Dick Winningham Award, so both men were recognized.
Lange is the captain of the golf team, was named USCAA men's golf student athlete of the year, recognized as a member of the USCAA National Academic Team twice, three times named SLIAC All-Academic Team, and was named a member of the SLIAC All-Sportsmanship Team. On campus he is a member of the Mortar Board. Wes is a member of the Alpha Chi Honors Society, has participated in numerous hours of pharmaceutical research, worked pediatric dental care in Batesville, volunteered at Zion Therapy Center, is President of the pre-dental club and has been accepted into Dental School at The University of Tennessee Health Science Center for dentistry.
Lupton is the wrestling team captain, is a four time all-conference honoree, three time all-academic selection, two time national wrestling qualifier, and a three time Academic All-American. He was named Mr. Lyon and has served on numerous organizations during his time as a student. He served as Treasurer, Representative, and VP of New Membership in the Student Goverment Association. For four years he was the President and Secretary of the Social Council, is President of Kappa Sigma Fraternity, President of Sabbath Scholars, is a member of the Mortar Board, and member of SAAC.
