Conway, AR - The Lyon College Scots dropped both games of their double-header against the Hendrix College Warriors on Wednesday (14-4, 10-5). Despite flashes of offensive production, big innings from Hendrix proved too much to overcome. Lyon softball now stands at 5-29 on the season.
The Scots combined for 11 hits and 9 runs across two games. Chloe McCance led the team driving in two runs on three hits, while Rebecca Rodriguez recorded two RBI on two hits.
In Game 1, Hendrix struck first in the opening inning before breaking the game open with a five-run second inning (6-0). Lyon responded in the third with its best offensive stretch of the game. Sophie Varela and Mia Sanchez reached base to set the table before Kori Cox drove in a run with a single. Chloe McCance followed with a two-RBI double to right center, and Anna Voth added an RBI groundout to cut the deficit to 6-4.
The momentum was short-lived as Hendrix answered immediately in the bottom half of the third with a seven-run inning, highlighted by a three-run home run that extended the lead to 13-4. The Warriors added one more run in the fourth, and Lyon was unable to respond offensively the rest of the way, falling 14-4 in five innings.
In Game 2, Hendrix once again jumped out early, taking a 3-0 lead through the first two innings. The Scots broke through, taking the lead in a five-run rally. Skylar Foreman drove in the first run of the inning, and later Taylor Gongre and Rebecca Rodriguez each delivered RBI hits. Anna Voth capped the inning with an RBI fielder's choice, giving Lyon a 5-3 advantage.
Hendrix responded quickly in the bottom of the fourth, scoring five runs to reclaim the lead (8-5). The Warriors added insurance runs in the fifth and sixth innings to extend their lead to 10-5. Lyon threatened in later innings with baserunners, including a double from Voth in the sixth, but could not capitalize as Hendrix closed out the game.
Scots will head to St. Louis to face the Harris-Stowe State University Hornets this Saturday, April 25 in double header starting at 1:00 PM.
