Batesville, AR - Lyon College Scots softball found it's outmatched offensively in their double header against the Central Baptist College (CBC) Mustangs. With today's losses Scots are now 3-13 on their 2026 campaign.
The story for both games is similar, early defensive success would precede a flood of runs from the Mustangs that would be a struggle for the Scots to stop. In Game 1, things tied at 0-0 to start the second. A quick double from Central Baptist was followed by a flyout. Runner would then reach third on a wild pitch, another Mustang would reach off a walk then steal to have two in scoring position. A single would bring a runner home then an error would allow another, 2-0 CBC. Mustangs bats, aggressive base running, and overall tempo of play created issues for Lyon. In Game 2, Scots would get down early, 2-1, but defensive play and a solo homer by
Chloe McCance would keep them in the game. However, in the 3rd inning after getting the first out off a fielder's choice two back to back errors would allow three more runs, 5-1 CBC. Scots were just not able to get the job done as a whole.
Lead hitter for the Scots today was
Sophie Varela notching four hits through two games, sole run scored today and RBI was McCance with her solo homer.
Scots will be back to face the University of Ozarks Eagles this Tuesday, March 24th in a double header starting at 12:00 PM.
