Batesville, AR – Scots find their groove with a massive comeback victory in game one on the day and fight for a compelling shutout victory against the Crowleys Ridge College Pioneers. With the sweep, Scots are now 3-9 on the season.
Game 1
Lyon 12, Crowleys Ridge College 11
In a thrilling come-from-behind victory, Lyon College secured a 12-11 walk-off win against the pioneers. The Scots' offense was sparked early by
Rebecca Rodriguez, who drove in two runs in the first inning and later stole home in the fifth to keep the pressure on the Pioneers. Trailing 9-2 in the third, Lyon mounted a massive rally behind
Kori Cox's RBI single and a clutch two-run knock from
Taylor Gongre. After falling behind again, the Scots surged in the sixth inning when
Mia Sanchez reached on an error to drive in two, followed by a Rodriguez RBI single that gave Lyon their first lead at 11-10. Though the Pioneers tied it in the top of the seventh, the Scots stayed resilient. In the bottom of the final frame, Gongre doubled to put herself in scoring position, and
Callie Marberry delivered the decisive blow, reachng on a bunt error that allowed Gongre to race home for the winning run.
Marlee McCalister earned the win in relief, tossing four solid innings to help Lyon clinch their second victory of the season.
Game 2
Lyon 11, Crowleys Ridge 0
Scots dominate the Pioneers in a commanding 11-0 shutout, fueled by an explosive 14-hit offensive performance. Sophia Varela set the tone early, finishing a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate and scoring three runs to lead the charge. The Scots' power was on full display as
Skylar Foreman racked up four RBIs, highlighted by two doubles and a sacrifice fly.
Mia Sanchez also terrorized the Pioneers' pitching, contributing two hits, including a double, and driving in two runs. Lyon broke the game open with back-to-back four-run innings in the second and third, which included a clutch RBI triple from
Callie Marberry. Additional offensive contributions came from
Anna Voth,
Ohnrie Bergman, and
Brekiyah Edwards, who each drove in a run to keep the pressure on Crowley's Ridge. While the offense sizzled,
Marlee McCalister was untouchable in the circle, tossing a complete-game five-inning shutout and allowing only two hits while striking out three Pioneers to secure her second win of the season.
Scots are back in action tomorrow facing the Millsaps College Majors at 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM.
