Lyon falls in ten inning battle with East Texas Baptist

Marshall, TX – The Lyon College Scots were back and forth with the East Texas Baptist Tigers in a ten inning battle, falling 8-7 after an early comeback. Scots are now 8-3 in their 2026 campaign.

After falling behind after two innings 2-0, Lyon answered in a big way in the third inning. Kooper McCoy drove in the Scots' first run with an RBI single before Braden Bramlett launched a three-run home run to left field, giving Lyon a 4-2 advantage.

East Texas Baptist would tie the game in the bottom half of the inning, but Lyon continued to apply pressure. Slade Inman tripled to lead off the fourth, then was driven home by Misael Santiago's sacrifice fly. Lyon would keep their lead through the fifth, with Joe Galay recording a strikeout and Ashton Compton getting two putouts. The Scots added another run in the sixth when Compton delivered an RBI single to center to bring Slade Inman home, and Landon Swallow extended the lead to 7-4 with a solo home run in the seventh.

Starting pitcher Galay turned in a solid outing, working six innings while allowing four runs and striking out one batter.

The Tigers rallied late, plating a run in the seventh and two more in the eighth to even the score at 7-7. In the Top of 9th Scots' batters fought, but were unable to make a mark. With the defense back on the field, Kenny Jennings would record the first out on a sacrifice bunt. With Tigers' runners on the corners, a fly ball to right field would be caught by Eli Marcotte then rocketed to McCoy at the plate to get the double play and send the game to extras. Lyon's offensive was unable to come away with a score leaving it 7-7, East Texas would take the game on a sacrifice fly 8-7.

Bramlett was the lead hitter for the Scots recording two hits on the day, the highlight of which was his three RBI home run which tied the game. Swallow notched two hits with an RBI, while McCoy and Compton added a hit and RBI each. Inman would tally two hits and Santiago would record an RBI.

Scots will continue the series in Marshall starting tomorrow at 12:00 PM, as they face the ETBU Tigers in double header on March 14th.
