Batesville, AR - March is National Athletic Training Month (NATM), and Lyon College Athletics is proud to recognize the essential work of its athletic training staff. This year, the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) has designated the 2026 theme as
"Care You Can Count On," a tagline that perfectly reflects the dedication and expertise provided to Lyon's student-athletes year-round.
As the Scots compete across 16 different varsity teams, the athletic training department serves as the backbone of student-athlete health and safety. These licensed healthcare professionals are responsible for the prevention, diagnosis, and rehabilitation of injuries, ensuring that student athletes are prepared for high-level competition in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) & Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC).
The athletic training department is headed by
Emily Wallace, she oversees the comprehensive health and safety protocols for the entire college. Her role as Health Care Administrator ensures that every Scot receives high-level, coordinated care. Assisting her are
Sarah Schowengerdt and
Katie Schnacker. Sarah joined in 2021, bringing experience from her Master's program at Sterling College as well her clinical work. Her expertise is vital to injury prevention and rehabilitation of our student athletes. Katie arrived in 2025 and has worked tirelessly, whether early mornings or late nights her commitment to Lyon student athletes never wavers.
"Our athletic trainers are often the first on the scene and the last to leave," said Director of Athletics
Kevin Jenkins. "The 'Care You Can Count On' theme is especially fitting for Emily, Sarah, and Katie. Their commitment to the well-being of our Scots goes far beyond the sidelines, encompassing everything from emergency care to long-term recovery and mental health support."
To Emily, Sarah, and Katie: Thank you for your late nights, your early mornings, and your unwavering dedication to the Scots. Your expertise ensures that our athletes are not just competitors, but healthy individuals. This month, we celebrate you and the vital role you play in the Lyon College community.
