Scots fall in heartbreaker to Webster, 64-62

St. Louis, MO - After a comeback in the second quarter to close the lead at halftime, Scots battled the Webster University Gorlocks taking the lead late. Lyon continued to attack the basket but turnovers and missed shots left the door open for Webster to get the win, 64-62. With this loss Scots are now 9-10 on the season and 6-5 in SLIAC Conference play.

Lyon struggled to find its footing early as Webster jumped out to a 24-10 lead after the opening quarter. The Scots responded with a strong second quarter, using improved shooting and defensive pressure to outscore the Gorloks 27-17 and cut the deficit to 41-37 at halftime.

The Scots continued to chip away in the third quarter, holding Webster to just nine points while staying within striking distance. Lyon entered the fourth quarter trailing by just one, 50-49, giving the Scots a great opportunity.

In the final period, Lyon briefly took the lead behind three-point shooting and strong defensive play. The game featured multiple lead changes down the stretch, and the Scots held a two-point advantage with just over two minutes remaining. Webster answered with late baskets, including the go-ahead layup with nine seconds left, to secure the narrow victory.

Natalya Kaza led Lyon with 20 points, knocking down four three-pointers. Molly Mason added 15 points on efficient shooting and pulled down nine rebounds, while Kaysharia Woods finished with 10 points and eight assists. Savanna Lopez recorded a double-digit rebounding effort with 11 boards, a team-high four blocks, three assists, and six points.

Scots will return home to Batesville to face the Eureka College Red Devils this Thursday, February 5th at 5:30 PM for another SLIAC match-up as well as Alzheimer's Awareness Night.
