Greenville, IL - The Lyon College women's basketball team earned a SLIAC road win this Saturday afternoon, defeating Greenville University 84–78. Scots are now 9-9 on the season and 6-4 in SLIAC conference play.
The Scots came out strong in the first quarter, beating Greenville 23-21 behind active defense and early perimeter shooting. Lyon continued to find success offensively in the second quarter, shooting 50 percent from the floor and knocking down five three pointers to take a 44–39 lead into halftime.
Lyon seized control in the third quarter, outscoring the Panthers 27–14 to build its largest lead of the game. The Scots connected on five more three pointers in the period and forced multiple turnovers to push the advantage to 71–53 entering the fourth.
Greenville made a late push in the final quarter, trimming the deficit to as few as two points, but Lyon responded with timely baskets and strong free throw shooting down the stretch to secure the 84–78 victory.
Natalya Kaza led all scorers, finishing with 33 points on 11-of-17 shooting while draining seven three pointers. Kaysharia Woods added 14 points and four assists, while Savanna Lopez contributed 10 points, six rebounds, six assists, and three blocks. Paris Halliburton provided a spark off the bench with 11 points and seven rebounds, and Alyssa Abascal chipped in nine points, all from beyond the arc.
Lyon finished the game with 12 three pointers and converted turnovers into 32 points, playing a pivotal role in the road win.
Scots will head to St. Louis, MO to face the Webster University Gorloks this Tuesday, February 3rd at 5:30 PM.
