Louisville, Ky - The Lyon Scots men's basketball team battled the Spalding Golden Eagles in a tough SLIAC matchup falling, 54-51. Scots led till late in the second half but were unable to stop a Eagles comeback, coming up short on a missed three point shot in the final seconds to the tie the game. With this loss Lyon is now 12-5 on the season and 7-2 in SLIAC conference play.
Lyon controlled the early tempo, using active defense and second-chance opportunities to grab momentum in the opening half. The Scots forced turnovers and attacked the paint, taking a 26–23 lead into halftime after a late fast-break layup by Stephen Reed.
The Scots came out strong in the second half, extending their advantage to as many as 11 points. Trevon Taylor sparked the run with a pair of three-pointers and strong drives to the basket, while Kenneth Brown added a timely triple to keep Lyon in front.
Spalding responded with a late surge, slowly chipping away at the deficit and reclaiming the lead in the final two minutes. Lyon stayed within striking distance until the final buzzer but was unable to convert in the closing possessions as the Golden Eagles secured the three-point victory.
Taylor led the Scots with 17 points, while Brown finished with 10. Camron Williford provided a boost off the bench with 11 points, going 7-of-8 from the free-throw line. Reed added eight points and six rebounds, tied for the team high with Taylor and Xavier Sorrell. Lyon outplayed Spalding off the glass 29–18.
Scots will move on to face SLIAC opponent Greenville University this Saturday, January 31st at 3:00 PM in Greenville, Ilinois
