Scots fall to Westminster; 55-69

Batesville, AR - The Lyon College women's basketball team battled through a challenging road test Thursday evening but came up short in a 69-56 loss to Westminster College at Westminster Gym in Fulton, Missouri. Scots are now 8-8 on the season and 5-3 in conference play.

The Scots found themselves playing from behind early as Westminster opened the game with a strong first quarter, taking a 21–13 lead. Lyon continued to compete defensively, but shooting struggles limited their ability to close the gap, and the Bluejays carried a 36-24 advantage into halftime.

Despite the deficit, Lyon showed resilience coming out of the break. The Scots worked to generate quality looks and pushed the tempo when possible, but Westminster maintained control in the third quarter to extend its lead. Entering the final period down 52-34, Lyon refused to fold.

The fourth quarter was the Scots' best stretch of the night. Lyon poured in 22 points over the final 10 minutes, nearly matching Westminster shot for shot. Natalya Kaza led the charge with a game-high 18 points, attacking the basket and finishing strong through contact. Molly Mason added 13 points and a team-best 11 rebounds, while Kaysharia Woods chipped in nine points and sparked the offense with timely perimeter shooting.

Savanna Lopez made her presence felt on both ends, finishing with eight rebounds and multiple blocks, helping the Scots battle on the glass. Lyon outscored the Bluejays 22-17 in the fourth quarter, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome.

Lyon finished the night with 23 fast-break points and forced Westminster into several turnovers, showing flashes of the defensive pressure and transition play that have fueled the Scots' recent success.

Scots will continue SLIAC play traveling to Louisville, KY to face the Spalding University Gorloks on January 29th at 5:30 PM.
