Batesville, AR - Scots softball has been voted to finish sixth in the St. Louis Intercolliegiate Athletic Conference's pre-season poll.
Lyon received 27 points to place 6th just in front of Webster (26), Eureka (14), and Principia (9).
Spalding placed 1st with 62 points and six first-place votes, while Greenville came in 2nd with 55 points and two first-place votes. In Third, the Mississippi University for Women received 52 points and one first-place vote. Blackburn landed in the 4th place spot with 43 points and finishing ahead of Lyon in 5th is Westminster with 36 points.
Scots look to improve upon last season, bringing in 11 new players to reinforce their returners. Key returners like
Sophie Varela,
Rebecca Rodriguez,
Skylar Foreman, and
Anna Voth will surely make a splash this season. Varela was named 1st Team All-Conference last year hitting .350 with 16 RBI and 34 runs scored. Rodriguez, Foreman, and Voth hit for over .300 last year. On the dish, junior transfer pitcher
Marlee McCalister will be looked upon to provide innings for the Scots.
Fighting Scots Softball's season will open at home at Howard and Mary House Field on Sunday, February 15th at 1:00 PM as they face the Rust College Bearcats in a double header.
