Memphis, TN - Scots played it very close in second set, but were unable to overcome due to Rhodes' offense and mistakes made by the Scots. Lyon fell to Rhodes in three sets 15-25, 25-27, 18-25. Scots are now 1-2 on the year and will play two matches on Saturday to continue the Rhodes College Classic.
Offensively,
Keeley Beary led the team in kills with six.
Caroline Snow facilitated the offense with 11 assists, and Sophia Santis led in service aces with two. Defensively, Beary,
Avery Fuller, and
Reyleigh Twist led the team in blocks each contributing two. Snow & Santis were tied leading the team digs each having seven.
Rhodes jumped ahead quickly in the first set off seven kills, 8-3. A service ace by Santis and two errors by the Lynx closed the lead to three, 10-7. A Rhodes 4-1 run would put extend their lead to six, 14-8. Lyon fall behind 12 points off multiple kills by Rhodes, 23-11. Three errors by the Lynx and a kill from Beary would make it closer, but the final kill from Rhodes would hit the court ending the first set.
In the second, the Scots got off to a good start with errors from the Lynx and a kill from
Mollie McCoy to make it 3-1. Lyon would widen their lead with a seven point run with kills from
Claire Carothers, McCoy, and Beary, 10-3. The Lynx would close the score to just three off errors from the Scots, a kill, and service ace, 11-8. A kill from Neveah Ghan and a Rhodes service error would bring the Scots a five point lead, 14-9. Rhodes would go on a 6-2 run to make them shy one point, 16-15. A kill from Fuller with an assist by Snow would make it a two point lead, but lead would close back to one point on a Scots error, 17-16. Both teams would find themselves tied at 19-19, with the Scots then taking the lead off a Carothers service ace and a kill from Twist to make it 22-19. Lyon and Rhodes would find themselves three more times before this set would end. Tied 25-25 two attack errors from Lyon and a kill by Rhodes would give them the set.
Third set was similar to the first with Rhodes off to lead early, 6-2. Lynx errors would bring it within three points 7-4. A kill from McCoy put Lyon down by one, 10-9. Rhodes extends their lead going on a 5-1 run, 15-10. A kill from Beary assisted by
Madeline Hopson and a Rhodes attack error still left the Lynx in the lead 17-13. Scoring five points off kills and service aces Rhodes a nine point lead, 22-13. Scots not out of this yet battle back with a 5-1 run off kills from Ghan to only be down five, 23-18. A kill from the Lynx and a error by the Scots would win the match for Rhodes, 25-18.
Scots will play again tomorrow Saturday, September 6 facing Austin College at 11:00 AM & Hendrix College at 2:00 PM.
