Scots score one goal late in tough loss to Majors

Jackson, MS - Trailing 2-0 at halftime, the Scots maintained the pressure on the Millsaps Majors in the second half and managed to score a late goal, but it wasn't enough. Lyon is now 2-3-2 on the season. 

Lyon took a total of 14 shots during the match with six coming the first and eight in the second. Of all the Scots shots only three were on goal and all three came in the second half. Millsaps fired a total of seven shots during the match with four coming in the first and three in the second. Of all the Majors shots five were on goal, with three coming in the first and two in the second. 

Lucca Torres led the team in shots having four, shots on goal with two, and scored Lyon's only goal (58:40). Francisco Polonia lead the team with two saves and gave up three goals. 

Scots would take the first offensive actions of the match with Salvador Fernandez firing the first shot over the net (9:55) and Traviss Ragan sending one (18:13). A Lyon corner kick (22:56) would set up an attempts from Andre Rodriguez that would go left missing the goal (23:34). Polonia would make his first save on the Majors first shot of the day (25:17). Lyon would respond three shots in quick succession from Tiago Donadon (30:45), Torres (32:00), Joao Barros (32:13). Millsaps would score two goals in the remaining six minutes (39:43 & 44:52). 

Both teams battled for field position, with cards and fouls being handed out to start the second half. Majors would score their third and final goal of the match (53:50), to go up 3-0. Scots would respond with Torres sending one to the Millsaps goalkeeper (55:35). Torres with an assist from Rodriguez would find the back of the net scoring the Scots only goal (58:40). Majors would respond firing a shot that sailed over the net (59:17). Nunes would try to close the lead to one point firing a shot the went left (60:58). Ragan fire a shot on goal that was saved by the Millsaps goalkeeper (63:25). Scots would continue to attack with shots being taken by Leonardo Bravo (67:12) and Barros (73:16 & 75:54). Torres would take the final shot for the Scots missing the goal (85:57). Polonia would make his second save of the day (88:00) to close the match. 

Lyon Scots men's soccer will return to Batesville to face the Spalding University Golden Eagles this Saturday, September 27 at 12:30 PM.
