Balanced attack leads Scots past Spalding

Batesville, AR. – The Scots made a statement with a balanced performance on both ends of the pitch, using a fast-paced attack and solid defensive play to earn a 2-0 victory over the Spalding Golden Eagles. With the win, the Lyon men's soccer team evens its record at 3-3-2.

The Scots generated consistent offensive pressure, tallying 17 shots with seven on target. Matheus Nunes led the charge with seven attempts, including three on goal. Tiago Donadon followed with three shots, one on target, while Lucca Torres and Leonardo Bravo each added two. Joao Barros and Tomas Biasi also contributed with shots of their own. On the defensive end, goalkeeper Gabriel Rangel stood tall, recording three saves to secure the clean sheet.

Lyon wasted no time applying pressure, recording the first shot of the match in the fifth minute from Leonardo Bravo. Just moments later, Cristian De La Rosa tested the Spalding goalkeeper with a shot on target (6:59). The Golden Eagles countered with an attempt of their own in the 22nd minute, but Gabriel Rangel came up with the save to keep the match scoreless. The breakthrough came in the 36th minute when the Scots broke through the defense to take a 1-0 lead, an advantage they carried into halftime.

Early in the second half, Matheus Nunes put the first shot on target, but the Golden Eagles' keeper made the save. Just minutes later, Nunes, assisted by Lucca Torres, fired a strike past the goalkeeper to double the Scots' lead (50:15), making it 2-0. Spalding looked to respond with a pair of chances but missed the target on both attempts. Donadon tested the keeper with a shot soon after, while Barros recorded the final attempt of the match in the 84th minute as Lyon closed out the victory.

Up next, the Scots will face Westminster College at home on Saturday, October 4th.
