Batesville, AR - The Lyon College Scots kicked off their 2025 men's soccer season this Sunday, Aug.31 with a 3-2 victory grounding the McMurry College Warhawks. An exciting second half was the highlight, where Lyon's offense scored all three goals and key defensive plays were made on pitch and in goal. Scots are now 1-0 on the year.
Lyon took 15 shots with eight coming in the first and seven in the second. Of all the Scots shots five were on goal, with two in the first and three in the second. McMurry fired 13 shots with 6 in the first and seven in the second. Of all Warhawks shots 5 were on goal, with only one in the first and four in the second half.
Lucca Torres led the team with a goal, an assist, and three shots.
Matheus Nunes and
Micah Rangel contributed three shots each, with Nunes adding an assist.
Inaki Terra scored a goal and lead the team in shots on goal.
Gabriel Rangel collected three saves on the day, giving up two goals.
In the first half your Scots offense got going with a shot on goal from
Salvador Fernandez that was saved by the Warhawks goalkeeper (5:25). Lyon kept up the pressure with shots from
Cristian De La Rosa (7:50) and
Micah Rangel (13:50) both veering out right of the goal. Terra continued the attack firing a shot on goal (17:13) that was saved by McMurry. Scots goal was not threatened until nearly the middle of the first half, with
Gabriel Rangel making his first save of the day at 23:37. Final Lyon shot of the half was taken by Torres (22:50). Warhawks would lack accuracy for the remainder of the half failing to find the goal.
Around five minutes into the second, Terra found the back of the net off an assist from Nunes (50:31) to put the Scots up 1-0. Nunes hunting for the goal, took three shots within ten minutes the final coming (60:16). Torres would up the score firing in a shot to make it 2-0 Lyon (66:24). McMurry would score their first goal of the match off a penalty kick (68:17) to make it 2-1.
Matthew Turner extended the lead,3-1, scoring the go-ahead goal with an assist from Torres (76:11). The Warhawks were not done yet as they put up their second goal (77:07) to make it 3-2.
Gabriel Rangel would ensure victory for the Scots with two key saves at (78:43 & 80:32).
