Arlington, TX - Starting the season in a dominant fashion, Scots cruised to a 7-1 victory over the Arlington Baptist University Patriots this Friday afternoon in Arlington, TX. Lyon College is now 1-0 on the season.
Lyon's offense was excellent with 16 shots in total, 12 of which were on goal.
Cheyenne Matthews led the team in shots with four, followed by Lily Barr with three. Matthews and Barr are tied for the lead in shots on goal each having two.
Emily Betzold led the in assists with two. Arlington had a total of 10 shots, 7 of which were on goal. Defensively,
Jessie Stauffer blunted Arlington's attack with three saves.
Six different Scots hit the back of the net this match, three of whom found it in the first half.
Deaiveon Carter started things off scoring the first goal of the year and the half with an assist from
Emily Betzold. Betzold notched her second assist of the match helping
Angelica Soto to make it 2-0. Matthews followed on putting another point on board, 3-0, with an assist from
Millie Beller.
The scoring did not stop in the second half, with
Millie Beller putting up another goal for to make it 4-0. Scots offensive dominance continued with a goal from Barr and a another
Rylie Williams to put Lyon up 6-0. Pressure was constant during this match resulting in own goal by the Patriots to put the Scots up 7-0. Only then, deep in the second half did the Patriots score their first and only goal to make the final 7-1.
Lyon women's soccer will travel to Sherman, Texas to take the Austin College Roos this Saturday, Aug.30, at 6:00 PM.
