Scots softball sweeps Hendrix College in Conway

CONWAY, Arkansas - The Lyon College Softball Scots swept a non-conference doubleheader at Hendrix College on Monday night at Warrior Field.

The Scots (11-25, 5-9) defeated Hendrix 4-3 in the first game and took eight innings to defeat the Warriors 9-6 in second game.

In the top of the first inning of Game 1, Sophie Varela led off with a single to right field and Anna Voth bunted her to second base. MK Duffield doubled to left center field and Olivia Orf singled up the middle to bring in Varela for a 1-0 Lyon College lead.
Hendrix came back in the bottom of the first inning to score three runs.
The score stayed 3-1 until the top of the sxith inning when Duffield led off with a solo homer to right-center field. Orf followed with a single to right-center and Skylar Foreman singled to center field. Brianna Morquecho reached on a fielder's choice that advanced pinch runner Gabby Thomas to third base. With two outs, Thomas scored on a wild pitch to tie the game 3-3.
In the top of the seventh inning, Voth walked with one out and with two outs, Orf singled to center field to score Voth from second base for a 4-3 lead.
Hendrix had two runners on with one out, but a fly out to center field and a ground out ended the game.
Sydney Lasher picked up the win for the Scots. She went seven innings, gave up 12 hits, three runs, while striking out five.

In the second game, Hendrix Led 1-0 after the bottom of the first inning, but Lyon College scored five times in the top of the third. With one out, Varela singled to left field, Voth singled and Duffield had a base hit to center field to load the bases. Orf reached on a fielder's choice that scored Varela and with two outs, Foreman singled to the right side to score Voth. That set up an inside the park home run from Morquecho where Orf and Foreman scored ahead of her to make it 5-1.
With one out in the top of the sixth inning, Varela singled to left field and Voth reached on an error. Duffield advanced them both up a base with a grounder to second  base, then Varela scored on a wild pitch for a 6-1 lead.
Hendrix made it 6-2 in the bottom of the fourth and tied the game in the bottom of the fifth.
The game stayed tied until the top of the eighth inning. Ohnrie Bergman was placed at second base to start the top of the eighth and Fallon Lancaster singled to left field. With one out, Voth singled to left field to score Bergman. Duffield grounded out to first base to push Soni Beene and Voth up a base. Orf followed with a single to right field to bring in Voth and Beene and Foreman singled for a 9-6 Scots lead.
Hendrix went down in order in the bottom of the eighth.
Madison DeRoussel started the game in the circle for the Scots and went 3.1 innings, giving up eight hits and two runs  with one strike out. She was relieved by Ashley Abel, who pitched 1.1 innings and gave up four hits and four runs. Lasher came back in for the second game to pitch 3.1 innings and didn't allow a hit or a run and picked up her fourth win of the season.

Lyon College will be in action again on Saturday afternoon when they take on Principia College in a SLIAC doubleheader at Howard and Mary House Field.
