COLUMBUS, Mississippi - The Lyon College softball Scots dropped a SLIAC doubleheader at Mississippi University for Women in Columbus on Friday afternoon 4-2 and 7-0.
The Scots (4-17, 0-2) trailed 2-0 in the first game until the top of the fourth inning.
Brianna Morquecho singled to center field and stole second base.
Anna Voth singled through the left side to bring Morquecho to third. Voth stole second and MK Duffield was hit by a pitch to load the bases with no outs. After a strike out,
Skylar Foreman hit a sacrifice fly to left field to bring in Morquecho and make it a 2-1 lead.
MUW scored two more runs in the bottom of the fifth to go up 4-1.Â
In the top of the sixth, Morquecho singled and advanced to second on a throwing error. Voth hit a sacrifice grounder that moved Morquecho to third base. Duffield singled up the middle to score Morquecho, then a fielder's choice, a walk by Foreman and a strike out ended the inning with the Scots trailing 4-2.
Georgia Holzer was the losing pitcher for Lyon College. She pitched 6.0 innings, allowed six hits, four runs (three of which were earned) and struck out one of the 26 batters she faced.
In the second game, Lyon College got only three hits and did not score.Â
Morquecho doubled down the right field line in the top of the first inning.
Sophie Varela and Morquecho walked in the top of the third inning with Lyon trailing 1-0.
Foreman walked in the top of the fourth inning, and Duffield singled to right field in the top of the sixth inning with Lyon trailing 4-0.Â
By the top of the seventh inning, the Scots were trailing 7-0.
Rebecca Rodriguez singled to right field with one out and
Soni Beene walked.Â
