Lyon College softball splits doubleheader against the University of the Ozarks

BATESVILLE, Arkansas - The Lyon College softball Scots split a non-conference doubleheader at Howard and Mary House Field against the University of the Ozarks Eagles on Tuesday afternoon.

The Scots (4-13) lost the first game 3-2 and won the second game 4-0.

In the first game, Rebecca Rodriguez hit a solo homer to left center field to give Lyon College a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning.
Ozarks came back to score two runs in the top of the fourth inning and take the lead 2-1. The Eagles added another run in the top of the fifth inning to lead 3-1.
In the bottom of the fifth, Brianna Morquecho led off by being hit by a pitch. Skyar Foreman hit a sacrifice bunt to advance Morquecho to second, then with two outs, Morquecho stole third base to set up a run-scoring single to left field by Rodriguez to make it 3-2.
The Scots threatened in the bottom of the seventh inning when Foreman singled with one out and Soni Beene ran for her at first base. With two outs, Rodriguez reached first on an error and Beene advanced to second. Beene stole third, but a strike out ended the inning.
Georgia Holzer pitched the entire seven innings and gave up only five hits and three runs, one of which was earned. She had six strike outs of the 32 batters she faced.

In the second game, Sophie Varela led off with a home run to right field to put the Scots up 1-0. 
Lyon College added another run in the bottom of the third inning when Varela reached on an error and stole second base. Anna Voth advanced her to third base with a ground out to second and MK Duffield doubled to the right center field wall to score Varela and make it a 2-1 Scots lead.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Foreman reached on an error, Rodriguez singled to center field and with one out Beene singled to left field to load the bases. Varela hit an infield single to second and Foreman scored. Voth hit a sacrifice fly to right field to bring in Rodriguez to make it 4-0. 
Reece Montgomery singed to left field after Beene had gotten on base with a base hit to left field in the bottom of the sixth, but neither scored. 

The Scots play at Mission University and travel to Mississippi University for Women for their SLIAC opener with the Owls in Columbus.
