Scots baseball drops 9-5 decision to East Texas Baptist University in series finale

BATESVILLE, Arkansas - The Lyon College Scots baseball team had bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth inning, trailing 6-5, but failed to get a run across the plate against 22nd-ranked the East Texas Baptist University Tigers on Sunday afternoon at Fred Wann Field.

The Tigers came back to score three runs in the top of the ninth inning and take a 9-5 win in the three-game series finale.

The Scots (8-8) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning when Walker Smith hit a sacrifice fly to left field that brought in Eli Marcotte
The Tigers came back to tie the game in the top of the fourth inning and scored a single run in the top of the fifth to lead 2-2. ETBU went up 6-1 with four runs in the top of the sixth inning.

In the bottom of the sixth, Marcotte tripled down the right field line to bring in Kooper McCoy to make it 6-2.
In the bottom of the seventh, Ashton Compton drew a bases loaded walk to bring in Misael Santiago, who was pinch running for Braden Bramlett. Slade Inman singled to left field to drive in Logan Swallow and McCoy to make it 6-5.
In the bottom of the eighth, Braden Hendrix led off with an infield single. Smith was hit by a pitch and Andrew James struck out on a passed ball that allowed Hendrix and Smith to advance a base. Santiago tried a bunt, but popped out to the first baseman, then Swallow was hit by a pitch to load the bases. McCoy got a hard hit between third and short, but the ETBU shortstop made a diving snag and threw to second for the force out and end the inning.

In the top of the ninth, the Tigers scored three runs and got the Scots to fly out three times in the bottom half of the inning.

Lyon College takes to the road to Hot Springs for a doubleheader with Champion Christian on Tuesday afternoon begining at 1 p.m.
