Lyon College baseball falls in SLIAC doubleheader at Spalding

LOUISVILLE, Kentucky - The Lyon College Scots baseball team dropped a SLIAC doubleheader to the host Spalding University Eagles on Saturday afternoon at Derby City Field in Louisville.

The Scots (8-10, 0-2) lost the first game 15-5 and fell in the second game 22-5.

In the first game, Spalding led 2-0 until the top of the second inning when Andrew James flew out ot right field for a sacrifice fly that brought in Eli Marcotte to make it 2-1. Lyon College didn't score again in the top of the seventh inning trailing 12-1. Slade Inman doubled to left center field to bring in Kooper McCoy and Braden Bramlett, then Hendrix singled to right field to score Inman. Hendrix advanced to second on a wild pitch and Marcotte came in to score to make it 12-5.
Spalding added three more runs in the bottom half of the seventh to end the game 15-5.

Patrick Babcock suffered the loss in game one, going 3.1 innings and giving up eight hits nine runs from the 19 batters he faced. Connor Taylor came in to pitch 1.2 innings and he gave up one hit and three runs, while striking out two of the nine batters he faced. Tyler Campbell came in for an inning and allowed two runs on two hits and struck out one of the seven batters he faced. Nick Dennington pitched for an out and gav eup a run with two walks and a wild pitch, and Joe Galay came in and he gave up one hit of the one batter he faced.

In the second game, Spalding led 4-0 before the Scots scored in the top of the second inning. Inman doubled down the right field line and scored Ashton Compton. Walker Smith singled to left field bring in Landon Swallow and Inman, then Hendrix singled through the left side to score Bramlett and McCoy reached on a fielder's choice that scored on Smith to put Lyon College ahead 5-4.
Spalding hit a grand slam in the bottom of the second to retake the lead, 8-4 and added another homer in the bottom of the third. Spalding scored three more runs in the fourth and two more runs in the fifth. They secured the win with an 8-run bottom of the sixth.

The Scots will be home for a SLIAC doubleheader on Tuesday, March 25 against the Greenville Panthers at Fred Wann Field.
