BATESVILLE, Arkansas - The Lyon College Scots softball team were defeated twice on Saturday by visiting Crowley's Ridge, 7-5 and 6-5 at Howard and Mary House Field.
The Scots (2-7) fell behind 2-0 in the top of the first inning of Game 1 to Crowley's Ridge, but in the bottom half of the inning,
Anna Voth advanced to third and
Sophie Varela scored on a wild pitch, then
Rebecca Rodriguez singled to center field to bring in Voth and tie the game at 2-2.
Crowley's Ridge scored four times in the top of the second inning to go up 6-2. In the bottom of the third, MK Duffield doubled to left center for the Scot and scored Voth to cut the Crowley's Ridge lead in half, 6-3.
Crowley's Ridge added another score in the top of the fourth, but Lyon College answered when Voth walked with the bases loaded to bring in
Callie Marberry. The Scots left the bases loaded, but cut the score to 7-4.
Finally, in the bottom of the seventh inning, Rodriguez popped out to the Crowley's Ridge first baseman and
Brianna Morquecho raced home to make it 7-5.
Morquecho was 2-for-4 in the game with one run scored and walked once. Varela was 0-for-3 with a run scored a walk. Voth was 1-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored, one run batted in and also had a walk. Duffield went 1-for-3 at the plate with a double and an RBI to go with a walk, as well. Rodriguez was 1-for-3 with a hit and two runs batted in and also walked.Â
Olivia Orf was 0-for-4,
Skylar Foreman was 1-for-2 with a walk, Marberry was 0-for-1 with a run scored,
Georgia Holzer was 1-for-4 and
Ohnrie Bergman went 0-for-4.
Duffield had a double and Morquecho had a stole base in the first game loss.
Holzer pitched the entire seven innings and gave up seven earned runs, walked four and had seven strike outs of the 38 batters she faced.
In the second game, the Scots took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning when Bergman doubled to left field to score Voth.Â
Crowley's Ridge came back to take a 2-1 lead, but in the bottom of the third inning, Holzer singled to left field to score Duffield and advance Foreman to third base. That was followed by a sacrifice fly from
Fallon Lancaster that brought in Foreman and put Lyon College ahead 3-2.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Rodriguez doubled to left field and Morquecho scored to make it 4-2.
Crowley's Ridge got a run in the top of the fifth to cut the lead to 4-3, but in the bottom half of the inning, Varela doubled to left field to score Bergman to lift the Scots to a two-run lead, 5-3.
In the top of the seventh, Crowley's Ridge scored three times to take the lead and the Scots failed to score in the bottom half of the inning.
Varela was 2-for-5 with an RBI, Morquecho was 0-for-3 with one run scored and a walk, Duffield was 1-for-4 with one run scored, Rodriguez was 2-for-4 with an RBI, Foreman went 2-for-4 with a run scored, Holzer was 1-for-4 with an RBI, Voth was 1-for-3 with a run scored, Lancaster was 0-for-3 with an RBI and Bergman was 3-for-4 with one run scored and an RBI.
Varela, Rodriguez and Bergman had doubles in the game, Lancaster had a sacrifice fly, while Morquecho had two stolen bases, Varela had a stolen base,
Gabby Thomas had a stolen base and Bergman stole a base for the Scots. Lyon College turned one double-play in the contest, as well.
Sydney Lasher pitched the entire game for the Scots going seven innings. She gave up 13 hits, six earned runs, walked three and had four strike outs of the 37 batters she faced.
