Scots women's basketball drops 78-70 decision at Fontbonne

ST. LOUIS, Missouri - Natalya Kaza scored 24 points and had 12 rebounds, and Savanna Lopez had 17 points and 13 rebounds in a 78-70 loss at Fontbonne on Saturday afternoon. 

The Scots (7-14, 4-10) fell behind 18-12 in the first quarter and trailed 39-34 at halftime. Lyon College outscored Fontbonne 21-20 in the third quarter to close the gap to 59-55. In the fourth period, the Scots tied the game on a Kaza jumper at 63-63 with 6:43 to go in the game, but Fontbonne went on a 9-0 run to go up 72-63.

Lopez also eclipsed the block shot record at Lyon College in the Scots last game against Principia with 142 and she added two more in Saturday's game to have a total of 144 blocked shots for her career. The Lyon College record for blocked shots in a career was 141 by former Scots player Mary Blake (1997-2001). 

In the game against Fontbonne, Haven Cooper also scored in double-figures with 11 points and eight rebounds. Dalye Hambelton had six points and Emily Walley had four points, Savannah Stout, Jewel Walley, Molly Mason and Alexis Shelton added two points each. 

The Scots scored 30 points in the paint, had six points off of turnovers, 20 second-chance points, 10 fast-break points and got 19 points from the bench. 
The score was tied 10 times and there were three lead changes. 
Lyon College shot 35 percent from the field, hit 4-of-23 three-pointers and made 14 of 19 free throws. 

Kaza gave the Scots the initial lead with a three-pointer, but Fontbonne came back to lead 4-3 on free throws. Hambelton made a three-pointer for a 6-4 lead, but Fontbonne came back to tie it on a jumper. 
In the second quarter, Kaza completed a three-point play to tie the game 21-21 with 7:11 to go before halftime. Seconds later, Kaza made a layup to tie the game at 23-23. 
Cooper's basket with 8:59 to go in the third quarter tied the game at 39-39. Seconds later, Lopez hit a jumper to make it 41-41. At the 5:32 mark of the third quarter, Lopez made a jumper for a 46-46 tie and Emily Walley tied the game at 49-49 with 3:18 to go in the period. 
Kaza tied the game at 61-61 on a layup off a fast-break with 8:18 left in the game, then tied the game again at 63-63 with 6:43 to go.
