Hays, KS – Three Scots competed in the Bob Smith Open hosted by Fort Hays State University, standing out in a deep field of Division I, II, and III opponents with strong performances on the mat.
Kaylei Parish faced a challenging outing in the 103-pound weight class at the 2025 Bob Smith Women's Open. Parish had a difficult start, falling in the first round to Fort Hays State in just 50 seconds. She received a bye in the initial consolation round but her run ended in Consolation Round 2, where she was defeated by tech fall (10-0) by a Union College wrestler.
Rubi Gonzalez was a standout performer for Lyon College at the Bob Smith Women's Open, contributing a notable 5.5 team points and demonstrating impressive resilience in the 117-pound bracket. After a first-round bye and a tough decision loss in round 2 to a Trinidad State wrestler (Dec 5-5), Gonzalez caught fire in the consolation bracket. She secured two dominant victories by fall, pinning a Colorado State University wrestler in just 14 seconds and a Schreiner University member in 55 seconds. Her impressive run, which included fighting through four rounds, was eventually halted by a wrestler from Tarleton State.
D'Mysha James delivered a podium finish for Lyon College, wrestling her way to a strong third-place showing in the 180-pound weight class and scoring a team-high 21.5 points. James opened her tournament campaign with a quick pin over Murray State but faced a setback in the quarterfinals against Fort Hays State. Undeterred, James dominated the consolation bracket, securing four consecutive wins by fall. Her path included impressive pins. In the decisive third-place match, James capped her performance with authority, pinning a Minot State wrestler in 1 minute and 27 seconds to secure the medal for the Scots.
Next, Scots will travel to Kansas City, Missouri to compete in the Women's Eagle Open hosted by Avila University Sunday, December 14
