Her journey in the 117-pound Open bracket began with a dominant performance in the championship first round. She secured a victory by fall in just 2 minutes and 11 seconds against her opponent from Newberry College. Advancing to the quarterfinal, Gonzalez maintained her strong momentum, quickly dispatching her competitor from Bluefield State College with another win by fall, this time in an even faster 44 seconds.

The semifinals presented a turning point, where Gonzalez faced her opponent from Presbyterian College and was unfortunately defeated by disqualification.
