Torres, Barros Shine with Hat Tricks in Scots’ 10–1 Victory Over Owls

Batesville, AR - Scots were in absolute control this entire match, as the put up four goals in the first half and six in the second. Lucca Torres and Joao Barros both earn a hat trick today, scoring three goals a piece in the match against the Mississippi University for Women (MUW) Owls. With this win to cap off the regular season Scots are now 7-6-3 on the season and 5-2-1 in conference play. Lyon has put itself in a great position as we enter the SLIAC Conference championship tournament this weekend.  

The Fighting Scots were unstoppable offensively, recording 27 shots of which 17 were on target. Barros and Torres both had an excellent match today scoring three goals a piece. Barros led the team in shots with eight and added an assist. Torres recorded six shots and an assist. Nunes led the team with three assists and is tied with Torres and Barros as they each put four shots on goal. Scots Goalkeepers had a light day with Adryan Ledezma only facing three shots on goal and Austin Williams allowing the only goal late in the second half. 

Lyon took the lead early as Torres found the back of the net with an assist from Nunes (2:07). Scots would apply constant pressure as shots flew toward the goal from Nunes (3:21), Torres (4:42), Barros (8:20), and Micah Rangel (9:01). All shots would be saved by the Owls goalkeeper, but Torres would set up Barros to fire one in to the back of the net for the second goal (9:57). Only three minutes later Barros would follow that performance up with another goal, his second of the match to make it 3-0 Scots (13:23). Nunes would threaten the goal with a shot saved by the goalkeeper (15:29), but it would be a few minutes before the Taylor Prater would score his first goal of the year (34:23). MUW would threaten Lyon's goal twice during the first half with one shot going high-left (39:47) and the other was saved by Ledezma in the bottom center of the goal (40:57). Scots would lead 4-0 going into halftime. 

In the second half, Scots offense cooled off for the time being as the Owls would put pressure on the Scots. Ledezma would record two saves stopping potentials scores in the bottom right (60:25) & bottom center of the net (68:36). Scots would start to heat up as Barros (72:07) and Nunes (72:42) would fire off shots that would both miss the goal. Tiago Donadon would record his first goal of the match with an assist from Nunes (77:43). This would be followed by Torres scoring his second goal with an assist by Donadon (82:06). Not long after Donadon would send one to the back of the net with the assist from Nunes (84:32). Barros would score his third goal of the match for the hat trick (87:28). Not to be outdone Torres would get the ball down the field with help from Barros to score his third goal for his own hat trick (88:11). Nunes would score the tenth and final goal of the match for the Scots (88:52). Owls would score late on a penalty kick (89:17), but Scots would take the match 10-1. 

The #3 seed Scots will begin SLIAC Conference Championship play this Saturday, November 1st at 1:00 PM as they host the #6 seed Eureka College.
