Scots advance in SLIAC tournament play

Batesville, AR – On a dreary Saturday afternoon, the Scots made a statement in the opening round of the SLIAC Men's Soccer Quarterfinals. With the win, Lyon advances to the semifinals and improves to 8-6-3 on the season.

The Scots displayed their offensive prowess by recording 19 total shots, with five on target. Tiago Donadon led the attack with five shots, including one on target and a goal. Joao Barros followed closely behind, tallying three shots—two on target—and netting one himself. Lucca Torres and Leonardo Bravo each contributed two shots, with Bravo putting one on goal. Matheus Nunes, Micah Rangel, Roman Magnanelli, Traviss Ragan, Ariel Reyes, and Frederico Ribeiro all added shots to the board, showcasing Lyon's balanced offensive effort. In goal, Gabriel Rangel earned the win with one save.
Although conservative through much of the first half, the Scots maintained steady offensive pressure, keeping Eureka without a single shot attempt. Lyon nearly took an early lead, but strong goalkeeping by the Red Devils and a few unlucky rebounds kept the ball out of the net. The Scots fired off 10 shots in the first half but couldn't break through, sending both teams into the second half scoreless.

Very early in the second half, Bravo delivers a ball to Barros, who finishes with a shot finding the back of the net (46:52), giving Lyon a 1-0 lead. A few minutes later, Barros sets up Donadon, who fires a shot to the top corner, extending the lead to 2-0 (63:46). Eureka responds with a goal in the 67th minute to cut the deficit to one (67:16). Lyon would put the game out of reach late, as Reyes and Torres combine to secure the final score of 3-1.

With the win, the Scots advance to the 2025 SLIAC Soccer Championship and will travel to Greenville University to face the Webster University Gorloks on Thursday, November 6th, at 5:00 PM.
