Scots battle Blackburn to a draw in defensive standoff

Carlinville, IL – A slow start on both sides of the pitch led to a hard-fought battle between the Scots and the Blackburn Beavers, ending in a draw. With the result, the Scots move to 5-3-3 on the season.

The Scots pushed through the Beavers' defense with an aggressive offensive effort, recording 11 total shots and placing eight on target. Matheus Nunes led the attack with three shots, including two on goal. Salvador Fernandez, Cristian De La Rosa, and Luca Torres each added two shots apiece, combining for five on target. Tiago Donadon and Tomas Biasi each contributed one shot, with Donadon's attempt finding the net. In goal, Gabriel Rangel started between the pipes, facing nine shots on target and making eight saves to keep the Scots in contention.

Right out of the gate, Lyon's offense showed its intensity, firing four shots on goal within the first 10 minutes of play. After a steady back-and-forth battle across the field, Luca Torres sent a shot toward the bottom right corner, but the Beavers' goalkeeper made the stop (29:33). On the other end, Gabriel Rangel faced pressure but held strong, making a save on a high shot attempt (31:45). As time expired in the first half, Cristian De La Rosa put another shot on target, but once again, the Blackburn keeper was there for the save (45:00).

Early in the second half, Salvador Fernandez broke through the defense and found the back of the net to give the Scots a 1-0 lead (48:59). Just minutes later, Blackburn looked to answer with a strong shot on goal, but Gabriel Rangel came up with a big save (52:56). In the 68th minute, the Beavers were awarded a penalty kick, but once again, Rangel stood tall and denied the attempt to keep the lead intact. Blackburn earned another penalty opportunity late in the match and managed to convert, tying the game at 1-1 (82:28). The Scots continued to press for a go-ahead goal in the final minutes but were unable to break the deadlock.

The Scots return home for their next matchup, hosting the Tigers of East Texas Baptist University on Wednesday, October 15th at 3:30 PM.
