Kylon McCullough scored 31 points, Colbie west added 11 and
Frank Toney scored 10 points to lead the Lyon College Scots past the visiting MUW Owls in SLIAC action at Becknell Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.
The Scots (6-5, 3-1) got nine points and three blocked shots from
Malik Madison, six points from
Kennedy Warren and a basket from
John Paul Morgan in the win over MUW.
Lyon College led by 11 points at halftime, 38-27 thanks to a late layup from McCullough, who hit four three-pointers for 16 points in the first half.
The Scots were up by as much as 18 points in the second stanza when Kennedy hit a shot with 17 minutes to play to make it 47-29. MUW came back to cut the game to one point with eight minutes left, 53-52 and took a brief lead until Toney made four free throws in a row to put Lyon College up 59-56 with 3:33 left.
McCullough hit another three-pointer and Madison put in a free throw, but MUW came back to cut the game to two points with 1:40 to go. Madison got free for a dunk and McCullough put in two more free throws to extend the Scots lead to six points. After a three-pointer by the Owls, Toney made two free throws nine seconds left and MUW hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to make it a two-point win for Lyon College.
Next up for the Scots will be Fontbonne on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. and Principia on Saturday at 3 p.m.
