Scots softball drops double-header to Spalding University

LOUISVILLE, Kentucky - The Scots fell to the Spalding University Golden Eagles in a SLIAC double-header today hosted by Spalding.

In game one Lyon secured an early lead by Chloe McCance's run off of Mary Duffield's sacrifice fly in the 2nd inning.

Notable defensive contributions came from players like Sophie Varela, whose stellar outfield coverage prevented potential scoring opportunities for Spalding. Trinity Arrambide's solid presence at shortstop added a crucial layer of defense. McKenzie Campell recorded six strikeouts in the game further minimizing Spalding's scoring opportunities.

The Scots were ultimately bested 5-1.

In game two Lyon College faced a tough 16-2 defeat. Spalding jumped out to an early lead in the first inning, scoring 10 runs. Despite the final score, Lyon showcased moments of determination and resilience throughout the game.

Lyon's offensive efforts were highlighted by Chloe McCance's double in the second inning, bringing in Arrambide for their first run. Olivia Orf also contributed with an RBI ground out in the third inning, allowing Varela to score.

On the defensive side, Lyon displayed moments of brilliance, with notable plays from various players, including key fielding stops and smart defensive maneuvers. However, Spalding's relentless offense proved to be too much for Lyon to handle.

The Lyon College Softball team was set to take on Stephens College tomorrow, but the games have been canceled.
